London to Oxford… A day trip!

Today we bring you a day trip to Oxford, another great City to visit from London in just shy of an hour! Known for the famous Oxford University, and a host of other great things that you may not have known about…

Getting there

From London Paddington, you can get the train to Oxford in just 58 mins, which is less that some in-London commutes to work! Trains also leave from London Marylebone with the fastest reaching there in just over an hour. There are  If you fancy a drive out of the City, it’ll take you an hour and 40 min, which is not that bad, you may get there even quicker on the weekend. National Express coach also gets you there in the same time, so if you don’t fancy the drive, take the coach from London Victoria!

What to do and see

Bicester Village Designer Outlet is top of our list, there are many day trips from London to Bicester Shopping village and you can get there in 45 mins by train. Although not quite Oxford City, this is definitely worth a visit for some discount designer shopping. Keep your eyes peeled on our offers as we may or may not be teaming up with Bicester Village in the near future…

Oxford City centre is best explored on foot, there are many guided walks, around Oxford if you can’t be bothered to find your own way around, although we do suggest trying to explore without help as that’s half of the excitement! Be sure to visit Christ Church College, its chapel is Oxford’s cathedral. We highly suggest a winter visit here, as they open to the public for evening song and in the winter air, the experience is magical! Also take a trip to Britain’s oldest Botanic Garden, a great respite from the bustling centre with guided tour and family trails it’s a great place for all to see. Take a look at their site for current activities and information.

We also recommend exploring the University sites and museum, it’s really interesting to see all the historical and famous graduates and the ancient architecture.

Once you’re done exploring and you’re tired and hungry, eat at the Malmaison hotel in their converted prison! They have a great menu with lots to choose from, from breakfast to dinner, you can stop off at any point of the day and not be disappointed with their offerings.

If you want to go a little further afield, take a trip to the amazing World Heritage site Blenheim Palace which is 10 miles from the City centre. The outdoor park and gardens are huge and there’s so much beauty to explore inside, a brilliant day out!
