Our Five Favourite Pancake Day Spots in London
If you’re staying in London during pancake day this year, then rest assured you’re in safe hands. Every Shrove Tuesday the capital offers up an unbeatable range of pancakes of all shapes and sizes, from savoury Italian crepes to indulgent American diner-style platefuls. So without further ado, here is your tried-and-tested Supercity top five for the ultimate pancake day in London.
The Wolseley – Our favourite classic pancakes in London
Frequented by some of the UK’s foremost public figures, The Wolseley is a stunning, spacious “European restaurant” next to Green Park station. Its dark, sleek design and abundance of beautifully crafted glassware made us feel like we were dining in the Ministry of Magic from Harry Potter. And whilst their pancake selection comprises of just two classic toppings, we’ve found that it’s sometimes useful to have less choice. Just make sure you get there before 11:30am, and – trust us on this – you’ll want to arrive with an empty stomach!
My Old Dutch – For the best vegan pancake around
It’s no secret that we have a soft spot for plant-based takes on traditional food, so when My Old Dutch popped up with the ‘Vegan Volcano pancake’ we did not need any second invitation. Filled with hearty chunks of alternative chorizo and mozzarella, their vegan pancake recipe has been perfected with the ultimate combination of soy milk and gluten-free flour.
Crepe Affaire – The European touch
With its main outlet just a 10-minute journey from The Rosebery, Crepe Affaire has the broadest pancake menu we’ve come across in London. Their range of cuisines stretches from the streets of Mexico to Italy, with their special savoury Margherita crepe. Moreover, because these pancakes are so thin, they’re very quick to make, meaning that the overall service runs as smoothly as maple syrup.
Where the Pancakes Are – London’s Best Savoury Pancakes
The clue is very much in the name here. These Shrove Tuesday veterans offer four different menus filled to the brim with delicious combinations. But what makes Where the Pancakes Are stand out for us lies in the top right of their all-day menu. The Dutch Baby is a truly unique dish similar to a Yorkshire Pudding, and over the years they have mastered the craft.
Do it yourself in our kitchens!
That’s right – our number one pancake day recommendation is a do-it-yourself job in our fully-fitted aparthotel kitchens. It couldn’t be easier – we’ve got the mixing bowl, whisk, frying pan and spatula, so all you need to bring are the ingredients. Doing it yourself means that you can craft the perfect blend of fillings that can’t be found on any menus (we recommend a mango, banana and chocolate spread blend). It also means that you’re in charge of the most important moment of the evening: the flip!
