Christmas in London- How to do it Right

Christmas is the most special time in London—there’s an electric energy to the frosty air. Stroll down Oxford Street or through Covent Garden and you’ll find the streets prettier and livelier than any other time of the year. As the air gets colder and Christmas comes closer, take advantage of our Winter Warmup rates. Get cosy in one of our suites, and then go exploring!

Ice Skating

London may not get much snow over Christmas, but going for a skate on one of its signature rinks will do well to put you in the winter spirit. All of them have gorgeous historic backdrops too!

The Natural History Museum: Just down the road from Templeton Place, the warm glow from this Victorian terracotta redbrick museum creates a beautiful atmosphere. The Kensington Christmas Village serves hot chocolate and mulled wine as an added post-skate bonus.

The Tower of London: blue lights illuminate the walls of the millennia-old tower. If that’s not pretty enough, the whole of the City as its background should do the trick.

Hampton Court Palace: the sprawling grounds of Hampton Court make for enchanting skating. Escape the city and let the nature surround you.

Christmas Lights

Here’s a hint—they’re all based in the West End. Surprise surprise.

Carnaby Street: every year, Carnaby Street outdoes the rest with its stunning and aesthetically creative displays. It turns this small street into the belle of the London ball.

Oxford Street: Carnaby’s bigger, flashier brother ups the wow factor—the whole street this year is set to be adorned in bright snowflakes. There will be performances all month, too.

Covent Garden: might just have the most festive spirit of all the districts. There are so many sequin-covered corners to explore. Look for the mistletoe.

Christmas Villages

London may not have as much of a historical precedent for its Christmas villages the way other parts of Europe do, but it’s made up for it in recent years with big flashy displays that take over whole parts of the city. These are the best ones.

Winter Wonderland: this Hyde Park institution turns one of London’s more regal green spaces into a full-on Christmas circus. Go to soak up the jovial vibes and for some top mulled wine at the Bavarian tents in the centre.

Wintertime at Southbank Centre: sporting probably the best Christmas market in London, the Southbank Centre has a wealth of other activities throughout the season. Keep an eye out for free performances, stage plays, and music.
